Himan Brown Charitable Trust

$60 million in charitable grants and programs has been processed by the Himan Brown Charitable Trust over the last decade.

In addition to making grants to qualified nonprofits that meet the Trust’s philanthropic goals, we believe philanthropic partnerships are pivotal to accomplishing our charitable work. We partner with various nonprofit organizations to create:

  1. Community-building programs like the Himan Brown Program for Community at the 92NY or the Key to Giving Program in Miami.
  2. Storytelling programs like The Himan Brown Symposium at the New Jewish Home or the Himan Brown Storytellers Project at the KBCF.

Through our charitable work and partnerships, Himan Brown’s memory continues to be a blessing.

Today Repair Miami fellows work to build capacity in the nonprofit sector throughout Miami-Dade County. The Trust also funds volunteer opportunities through the UJA in New York City and the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s Jewish Volunteer Center as well as other Jewish service organizations throughout the various regions of grantmaking.

The HBCT’s strong ties to the nonprofit organizations within its grant portfolio allowed the Trust to pivot during the pandemic in order to meet new unmet needs. The Trust supported food security through a network of nonprofit providers. This network also entailed community health partners that provided seniors with access and transportation to vaccinations during the pandemic. These organizations were crucial in supporting food security to those in need throughout the Covid-19 global pandemic.

The Trust’s philanthropic investment in families and education extends throughout their grantmaking by investing in organizations that ensure families have safe spaces for their children to continue learning through the summer. The Trust has invested in augmenting in-school and afterschool programming for students in schools throughout the U.S. That investment carries on to tertiary education in the form of scholarships and fellowships for those that are academically talented but financially needy. The Trust partners with academic institutions to process and coordinate scholarships and fellowships.
