WHO: Miami Children’s Initiative and Himan Brown Charitable Trust
WHAT: “Building Liberty City’s Future: Block-by-Block,” is a partnership between the Miami Children’s Initiative and Himan Brown Charitable Trust focused on inspiring, educating and empowering Liberty City’s children, youth and families.
Our first joint event brings international speaker and renowned educator, Geoffrey Canada, President and CEO, Harlem Children’s Zone. Through the Harlem Children’s Zone, Geoffrey Canada created a model for community transformation. He started with one block in Harlem- 119th Street, and decided that if they could fix that block, then they could fix another one, and then another one. Twenty years later, HCZ has transformed almost 100 blocks. As President Barack Obama put it, they are, “literally saving a generation of children in a neighborhood where they were never supposed to have a chance.”
