Breakthrough Miami provides an academic enrichment program that uses a student-teaching-students model to ensure that motivated, under-resourced 5th – 12th grade students have access to excellent educational opportunities, graduate from high school on time, and attend college.
Notable updates from Breakthrough Miami:
- We expanded to open a new site this past summer at Belen Jesuit – this site will grow in next 3 years to serve 180 Scholars
- We reached full capacity at our Saint Andrews site serving Scholars from Broward and Palm Beach Counties (180 Scholars)
- We will open Breakthrough U North this summer serving our inaugural class (now rising 9th graders) from Broward and Palm Beach counties – we are in discussion with FAU as a host but for our first summer programming will take place at Saint Andrews with field trips to local universities
- We secured a highly competitive grant from Helios Education Foundation (one of only five in the State) – $865K over three years supporting post-secondary pathways and igniting advising for freshman in college to support college persistence and completion.
- Among our many other grants, we were proudly selected as a flagship grantee ($25K) by the Coral Gables Community Foundation and secured continued funding from the Education Foundation of America ($92K); we secured renewed funding from the Heckscher Foundation for Children ($100K) for our 9-12th grade work and the Batchelor Foundation ($100K) supporting our 5th grade curriculum.
- We have maintained our AmeriCorps funding (now $1.125M/year) and continue to serve as a Trust Academy training partner (year four of a five year contract), training peer youth development organizations
